WORLD BIGGEST BEETLE

Mysterious TITAN BEETLE grows up to seven inches long and can snap a wooden pencil in two with its jaws.

Also known as Titanus Giganeus, it lives in the forests of South America, and is one mighty fighter.

Its larva could be up to one foot long, but it has never been seen.  The male does not feed during his adult life, and uses his energy to fly to find  a mate.  Its limited energy comes from reserves gathered in its pupa state and is not enough to enable him to fly from the ground like other insects. So he must climb trees and launch itself from a branch before it takes to the air.   Females wait for the males to find them and fertilize their eggs.

The Titan beetle also has incredibly strong legs and sharp claws that can tear animal and human flesh, but only acts in self-defence.

Tourists pay large amounts of money to be able to see them.
