TIME TO CALL FOR AN END TO THE OLYMPICS

Who benefits from the Olympics?

A tiny number of athletes get fame and glory.

A huge number of corrupt businessmen and politicians have the most to benefit from.

The Olympics Committee itself has been embroiled in allegations of corruption for a long time.

Who pays for the Olympics and associated costs?

Taxpayers are burdened with the huge bill.  Many are driven out of their homes by those who want to use the land for new Olympic construction.

Think of the many ways in which all that money and effort could be put to use.  Instead of favoring a few elite athletes, governments could invest in more health and fitness activities for all youth, all citizens.

A tiny sample of scandals at the Olympics

Currently the media is full articles about corruption at Sochi, just the latest example of a chronic problem.

But all of the above is nothing compared with what's ahead.

The Japanese were awarded the 2020 Olympics, in complete disregard for the country's responsibility for the ecocide caused by the ongoing Fukushima nuclear disaster.  The oceans and the entire planet are being contaminated.  Much ocean life has already perished.  It will only get worse.

Now the question is: What kind of Olympics will they celebrate in a country poisoned by radioactivity?

Will the events even take place?  Some are already questioning this possibility.
