KASPERSKY: COMPUTER VIRUSES CAN INFECT YOUR TV

Televisions could soon be infected by computer viruses, one of the world's top technology security experts has warned.  Eugene Kaspersky is co-founder and chief executive of Russia’s Kaspersky Lab, the world’s fourth largest computer antivirus company.   He said threats will spread to the 'home environment' and televisions as internet connections make technology more vulnerable.

In an interview with The Telegraph he said his company's headquarters in Moscow receives 315,000 suspicious activity reports every day. It is double the number from last year.  He warned: 'The threats will diversify to mobile phones and to the home environment, such as through televisions, which are now connected to the Internet.' He said there were 'millions' of attacks on Microsoft Windows each year, and also thousands on mobile phones, mostly on Android, but also some on iPhones.

Mr Kaspersky said he does not yet know of a successful virus for televisions, but he said it will happen.  He added: 'It’s just a question of time. We already have a product for mobile and we have a prototype for TV so we are ready to address this issue when new malware for television is released by criminals.'  But Mr Kaspersky warned that there would be 'very bad attacks' of terrorism and sobateg, on critical infrastructure managed by IT systems which are vulnerable, and were designed when cyber sabotage did not exist.
