VIOLENT PROTESTS IN POLAND against membership in the European Union, which many Poles feel it's eroding traditional conservative Polish values.

Police officers in the Polish capital of Warsaw have arrested 215 people after riots took place throughout Tuesday

Masked protesters launched rocks, flares and cobblestones at riot police during a day of violent clashes in the city

Hooligans among tens of thousands of people who took part in a march organised by extremist nationalist groups

At the start of the march, participants chanted "Down with the European Union!"

Today Poland celebrated regaining its independence after World War I

Nationalist groups who believe traditional Polish values are under threat march through Warsaw each year to mark the anniversary of Polish independence, and for the fourth year in a row their procession turned violent.

Some Poles feel traditional values - including a strong attachment to the Catholic church, and opposition to abortion and same-sex marriages - are being sacrificed as Poland embraces the ideals of the European Union.
