For those in peril: The stomach-lurching moment ship's crew faced terrifying 100-foot wave during North Sea storm
  • The ship got stranded in North Sea about 100 miles from land as powerful waves crash into the vessel
  • Images were captured on board an ERRV (Emergency Response & rescue Vessel)
  • Storm Gertrude caused chaos in Britain last month, bringing 144mph winds and 60-foot waves to UK coasts

  • Surge: Video was captured by a man on the bridge of the ship stranded in the North Sea during Storm Gertrude

See more images and link to video of this giant wave, and more pictures of the impact of Storm Gertrude at the end of January.  See also pictures of firefighters rescuing a bunny who was blown to the top of a house roof by the strong winds.

Choppy: Powerful surges of water crash against the vessel, rocking it from side to side and soaking the deck

Tough: The job of the workers on board is to look after the oil platforms and the people who work on them

Stranded: The workers can only watch as their ship is relentlessly battered by heavy winds and strong waves
Terrifying: Video from inside the ship creates more sea-sickening viewing as the waves encapsulate it in water

Rocking: Worryingly the ship can even be heard creaking under the sheer weight of the devastating storm

Frightening: The footage was captured by workers on an ERRV (Emergency Response & rescue Vessel)

Swamped: A train about to enter Saltcoats Station, in North Ayrshire, Scotland, is pounded by waves, while the salt water is causing arcing on the power lines above yesterday
