The night you could almost touch the stars: The fantastic array of such rich galactic colours was captured by Alessio Putzu
The extraordinary scene was photographed by Alessio Putzu, who managed to capture ethereal colours of the galaxy.  The stunning picture shows vivid colours sparkling over the sleeping island of St Michael’s Mount in Cornwall

Billions of years old and burning lightyears away, the stars and planets within the Milky Way are seemingly within touching distance as their vivid colours sparkle over the sleeping island of St Michael’s Mount

St Michael’s Mount, which can be reached by foot when the tide is out, is a place where wonder and magic can often feel near – legend has it the giant Cormoran once walked its granite causeway

To capture the ethereal colours of the galaxy Alessio Putzu needed a long shutter exposure of four minutes to let in enough light. He also used a piece of equipment called an ‘astro tracker’, which is aligned with the Pole Star to follow the revolving sky
