DANGEROUS BACTERIA IN DOGS AND CATS SALIVA

Woman lost three limbs to bacteria in her lapdog's saliva.

After being bitten by her small Shih Tzu mixed breed, she went into septic shock.

Christine Caron, 49, had both her legs and an arm amputated after Buster gave her a small bite.  She brushed off the injury and allowed one of her three other dogs to lick the wound.  Three days later she went into septic shock, after her wound became infected with CAPNOCYTOPHAGA CANIMORSUS, a bacteria common in dog's saliva.

The septic shock caused blood flow to be restricted to her limbs and left doctors no choice but to amputate.   Mrs Caron almost lost her life, and doctors were forced to put her into an induced comma for six weeks.

Doctors are unsure whether the infection came from the bite or from other dogs licking the wound.
